The EPA's SmartWay program helps companies reduce transportation-related emissions by measuring, benchmarking, and improving freight transportation efficiency. Launched in 2004, SmartWay creates incentives to improve supply chain fuel efficiency.
Verified Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) Tires & Retreads
The EPA has determined that certain low rolling resistance (LRR) tires and retread technologies can reduce NOx emissions and fuel use by 3% or more, relative to the best-selling new tires for long-haul class 8 tractor-trailers. If a tire is used on a different truck type or axle position, the tire is not considered SmartWay verified for that application.
These improvements are achieved under the following conditions:
The following Continental low rolling resistance (LRR) tiers are SmartWay verified when used on class 8, long-haul tractor trailers:
Steer Tires | Drive Tires | Trailer Tires |
Conti EcoPlus HS3+ | Conti HDL 3 LTL | Conti EcoPlus HT3 |
HSR2 | HDL2 | Conti HTL 3 |
Conti HSL 3 | HDL2 Eco Plus | HTL1 |
HSR2 Eco Plus | HDL2 DL Eco Plus | Conti Hybrid HT3 |
HSR2 SA | Conti Hybrid HD3 - 19.5" | |
Conti Coach HA3 | HDR2 Eco Plus |
